How can sustainable building principals can be incorporated into a historic building?

The Charley Creek Inn’s owners made a conscious decision to incorporate sustainable features into the building’s renovation.

Most importantly, the decision to preserve and restore the property instead of building new retained the embodied energy utilized to construct it and saved 75 percent of the structure from going to a landfill. The project preserves downtown density, creates a sense of place and signals to other property owners that downtown Wabash is a safe place to invest.

Other sustainable features include:

Reflective and vegetated roof surfaces

Photovoltaic solar panels

Increased insulation value and energy efficient mechanical systems
