Butler University, founded in 1855, occupies 20 buildings on a 290-acre urban campus on the near-north side of Indianapolis, Indiana. One of the University’s stated goals is to become a more residential campus, on which both academic and non-academic aspects of student life receive important attention. A key part of that goal is a commitment to increase on-campus student housing options.
In response to this commitment, RATIO designed Butler’s new Student Housing Village. The Village is located on the east side of the Butler Bowl, the University’s football and soccer stadium, and includes 508 apartments with four-bedroom units containing private bedrooms. Six apartment buildings are arranged around a Village Center building containing laundry facilities, a convenience store and lounge spaces.
