Eastern Illinois University has committed to growing a first-class competitive athletics program at the NCAA Division I level while promoting the academic and institutional values of the University.
To achieve this mission, EIU sought the creation of a master plan, with the goal of enhancing the student-athlete and fan experience by improving existing assets and creating new on-campus facilities.
In order to responsibly consider the future, this master plan presents a planned approach to improvements and growth that will occur in the coming years. Knitting together the academic and athletic campuses, the plan was created in tandem with a conceptual design for the Panther Performance Center, the new front door to Eastern Illinois University athletics.
This 115,000 sq. ft. facility will be a hub of activity for all student-athletes and a place for visitors to learn about and experience the athletic history of EIU. The Center will reach out to the main campus, with public spaces and a lecture hall for use by all students and the local community, and includes a basketball practice gymnasium, coaches’ offices, film rooms, locker rooms, an academic success center, a sports medicine / training area, a strength training area and a pre-game function facility.
