In November 2007, the NCAA Hall of Champions was damaged by a fire. Rather than simply replacing the damaged exhibit materials, the NCAA decided to update and modernize the exhibits in an effort to refresh the museum experience, draw in new and returning visitors, and provide increased flexibility of spaces for the organization.
RATIO worked in concert with exhibit designers Jack Rouse & Associates, Inc. to bring new life to the multi-use facility. The renovation included a complete reworking of all of the exhibit materials and the exhibit spaces, along with the creation of two public hospitality spaces.
The first floor exhibit area includes interactive displays on all 23 NCAA sports. The second floor exhibit space includes artifacts from several sports (including a full-size four-man rowing scull) and simulators that allow visitors to experience pitching a baseball, throwing a football, and swinging a golf club.
